Copyright protection is a complicated legal process; however, in the  USA some protection is provided by adding the following text to writings you may wish to proect:  Copyright © 202X by Author Name All Rights Reserved.  However, even such wording offers only limited protection, if any at all.  For a layman’s discussion of copyrights, see Terms Feed page.
A.     Of the two paid subscription levels (poet and patron) (herein paid users), all work including haiku created exclusively by them shall be their intellectual property (IP) and they are able to protect such IP at their own cost and expense with any government agency of their choice.  HI will use its best efforts to attach a copyright notice to each such IP created by paid users.  It is the responsibility of each paid user to ensure that each protectible property has and maintains on this site such notice. B.     The current status of the law surrounding copyrights is complex and often confusing.  The posting of a copyright notice by HI is not, and shall not be construed as, providing any protection of any type, sort, quality or kind whatsoever. C.    It is the responsibility of the paid user to obtain his/her own legal representation to obtain whatever IP protection that is, or may be, obtainable in said user’s desired jurisdiction. D.   Unpaid users of this site are not allowed to copyright their works on this site.  HI may, if it deems any free content worthwhile, save such content for its own uses including publication on this site and elsewhere, and all such content generated by free users is, and shall remain, the sole and exclusive property of Haiku Institute for its own exclusive use as its own IP. E.     This Copyrights statement is subject to the terms and conditions found in the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy and subordinate to such document provisions, including the obligation to resolve all conflicts by binding arbitration.
